12th Dec 2021 HARLING COMMUNITY BOOK SWAP NOW OPEN!

With huge thanks to a Tesco Community Grant, we are thrilled to announce that our Community Book Swap Shed is now open! It is situated down the side of the Village Hall, and has over 20ft of shelf space, split into different categories for all. The idea is very simple, come and take a book and replace it with a book that you’ve finished. It is protected by CCTV thanks to the Parish Council and we would like to thank Holly and Craig at One man and his wood for their help with the sign.

4th Dec 2021 RECORD TURN OUT TO XMAS LIGHT SWITCH ON – EAST HARLING LIGHT FESTIVAL

After not being able to hold our annual Christmas Light Switch on last year due to COVID, it was extra special this year to be able to plan and enjoy our bumper Light Switch on event. The Hall committee teamed up with the PTFA to combine our Christmas events this year, which worked terrifically. The event started at 4pm with a Lantern Parade from the Church to Peppers Corner, which families joined in with displaying their homemade lanterns. At the Christmas Tree there were even more people waiting patiently for our VIP Santa Claus himself! Whilst we waited, we sang Carols around the tree. At 5pm the Big Man himself turned on the Village lights and then we all followed Santa back to the village hall for a huge Christmas outdoor and indoor market full of local craft sellers and a bar and hot food. Mulled wine was served by the Village Hall and a really great evening was had by all.

14th Nov 2021 POSTPONED VE DAY CELEBRATIONS/ VE DAY EXHIBITION HELD AT THE HALL

As our VE DAY anniversary plans had to be cancelled due to COVID in 2020, we held a VE DAY exhibition and refreshments at the hall (courtesy of Peppers Tea Room thanks to a Breckland Grant) Many locals gathered their memorabilia to display at the hall and there was a really large amount of people who attended the event. We displayed a video on loop of the 96 Bomb Group which was based at Snetterton Airfield. The Parish was presented with a Commemorative Memorial Plaque to commemorate the resilience of our Community during the Pandemic. It was presented by Lady Fisher in her capacity as Deputy lieutenant acting on behalf of The Lady Dannatt MBE Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant and received by Chairman of the Parish Council, Phillip Edge. A really great Community atmosphere was felt throughout the day, it was most enjoyable.
